Agate discs with color (like this one) have been given their color by being dipped in a dye bath that penetrates the crystal. This technique has been around since time immemorial to bring out the agate's unique pattern. The white fields consisting of white quartz remain uncolored due to their harder structure. Small approx. 3 6 cm and large approx. 9 13 cm.
